A pair of young, up and coming Mandurah-based surfers have returned home from competing in Barton Lynch’s Blast Off event in Sydney with plenty of success to show for it.
The surfing competition for under 14s is the brainchild of world surfing champion Barton Lynch, and attracts the largest field of any kids’ surfing event in the world, and is by far the biggest grom surfing event in Australia – with the focus firmly on fun and self-improvement.
Local lads Phoenix and Maverick Wilson performed well in their respective categories against over 300 other competitors.
Phoenix made it to the quarter finals in the under 10s while Maverick won all of his heats leading up to the final in the under 8s, where he finished second in the category.
Maverick also picked up a custom made surfboard for the best overall performance by a grommet boy.
