I love a good practical joke as much as the next semi-mature man. Practical jokes that fool many, many people? Even better. But the past few weeks of iPhone insanity has proven that, joking aside, the internet can be a real destructive force.
Have you got a new iPhone? Did you drill a hole into it, because you saw an article which said if you did, hey, presto, new headphone jack? Well congratulations, you’re now one of those people news anchors call the “victims of hackers” for some reason.
Videos of “tech experts” allegedly un-stupiding the 3.5mm portless iPhone 7 fooled many into thinking this would actually work, and not just destroy the phone and warranty.
Some news outlets even reneged on their original information, urging iPhone users not to drill their phones to pieces, even if they were the same outlets who disseminated news on the “amazing iPhone jailbreak" in the first place. The internet is a funny thing.
