Charges laid against a 27-year-old man in relation to a 'coward-punch' attack at a Mandurah pub last week may be upgraded after the victim died in hospital on Tuesday night.
Jason Goodwin, 27, had been in an induced coma at Royal Perth Hospital with a fractured skull and brain hemorrhaging since the incident on September 20.
According to witnesses, Mr Goodwin was playing pool at Silver Sands Tavern around 4.30pm, and had his hands in his pockets, when another man punched him in the face, causing him to fall back and hit his head on the corner of a wall.
Paramedics found him unconscious a short time later.
After a two-day manhunt, Madora Bay man Jake Mosley was charged with grievous bodily harm.
Days after the incident, Mandurah detectives described the incident as "gutless" and "unprovoked".
Mr Goodwin was a chef and had formerly worked at a Pilbara mine site and The Stage Door Waterfront Restaurant, according to his Facebook page, where his friends have posted tributes.
"Such a great soul man, gonna miss you cuzzo, you made me laugh and smile everyday, I'm so very sorry I couldn't get there to say goodbye," wrote one person.
"Still can't believe it mate... would give anything to have you back with us," wrote another.
"I will always love you my gorgeous Jason Goodwin... Thank you for caring for me and loving me even in times I couldn't love myself. I cherish every moment with you!" wrote another person who called Mr Goodwin their best friend.
"I am so broken right now! You won't be forgotten."
Mr Mosley is yet to enter a plea.
