John Tonkin College year 11 student Jayden Waller never thought his photography work was going to hang on the wall of a Sydney art gallery, spark the interest of six potential buyers, and be purchased by two different art representatives when he joined JTC Beyond Focus project.
The project is run by photography expert Ross De Hoog, and encourages year 11 and 12 students to create attractive and thought-provoking photography art works.
Jayden’s work was one of the 40 selected pieces to be displayed in the project exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Spaces Mandurah (CASM) earlier this month and has already sparked national interest.
“One of the Sydney art gallery people came over to Mandurah and saw two photos, and mine was one of them,” Jayden said.
“So they chose it and then brought it over to Sydney.
“It’s very exciting.”
Jayden’s photograph, a symmetrical composition created by cloning a monochrome picture of a tree with Photoshop into different positions, is already on display in Sydney for art lovers to enjoy.
It has also been purchased by another gallery representative and has attracted a handful of other potential buyers.
Jayden, who has been interested in photography for a while, said he is still unsure about his future plans, whether to pursue a career as a photographer or become a bricklayer.
However, he hopes to study a photography certificate when he finishes school and dive into different photography styles.
