The 26-year-old manager who oversaw The Peninsula Hotel’s come-back as one of the most sought-after waterholes in Mandurah has made the finals of the prestigious Telstra Business Women of the Year Awards.
Danielle Rooney, who took on the job of rebuilding the hotel last July, made the finals in the young businesswoman of the year category.
She said it was “massive” to be recognised for all her hard work, which included setting up the relaunch of The Peninsula, from choosing stock to setting prices to organising the menu and the hotel’s design.
“Trying to appeal to the Mandurah market has been an interesting feat,” she said.
“It’s a real achievement to coordinate the 60 staff we employ for a venue with an 860 person capacity, getting that all running smoothly.”
Ms Rooney, who was the manger of Millbrook Winery before taking on The Peninsula, said she was studying for a masters in business administration and saw herself running her own business or as the CEO of a large corporation in 10 years time.
Telstra Business Women’s Awards ambassador and Telstra marketing chief Joe Pollard said Western Australian women were changing business, one brilliant business woman at a time.
“The 2016 Telstra Western Australian Business Women’s Awards finalists demonstrate the unique combination of skills required for professional excellence: the courage to take risks, sound financial management, strong leadership skills and of course, sophisticated business acumen allowing them to thrive,” he said.
Winners of the 2016 Telstra WA Business Women’s Awards would be announced at a function at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on October 7.
State winners would be flown to Melbourne for the national awards judging, which would culminate in a gala dinner on November 16.
