The safety of Murray motorists remains a priority in the 16/17 financial year as the Shire progresses its Roads Program.
As part of the Regional Road Group, Roads to Recovery and State Black Spot programs, several roads will undergo alterations to improve road conditions for drivers.
The Regional Road Group program will see an approximate one kilometre of road widening works undertaken in Lakes Road, 500m of widening works in Del Park Road and an additional 1km section of Del Park road will be reconstructed.
The program will also see a 1km length of East Coolup Road rebuilt to restore the bitumen surface.
A 1.3km section of Del Park Road commencing at South Western Highway will undergo widening and reconstruction works as part of the State’s Black Spot Program which will also see a 3.3km section of Patterson Road widened.
Through the Roads to Recovery program Herron Point Road works will continue and a further 1km of road surface, from the end of the recently laid bitumen seal to the boat ramp, will be upgraded from gravel to bitumen.
Additionally, over 400m of the Murray Bend Service Road will be upgraded from gravel to an asphalt seal.
Over the course of the 2016/17 financial year over $2,500,000 will be spent on road infrastructure in the Shire of Murray.
As part of its 16/17 budget, the Shire will contribute one third of the overall cost of each project falling within the Regional Road Group and State Black Spot programs.
Works under the Roads to Recovery program are fully funded through the Commonwealth.
The Shire’s Road Program typically operates from October to April to coincide with optimal weather conditions conducive to constructing roads. Works on Herron Point
Road and the Murray Bend Service Road are however anticipated to commence early September.
Shire officers will undertake all works scheduled.
“We have a responsibility to our residents and visitors to continually improve the standards of our roads and will continue striving to ensure the safety of those travelling in our District,” Murray Shire CEO Dean Unsworth said.
