Capes, tights, and boots in all shapes and colours took over World of Kids daycare centre in Halls Head this week as part of National Superhero Week 2016.
Teachers, carers and children left the jeans and t-shirts at home and wrapped themselves in a superhero costume from Monday to Wednesday to raise funds for the fight against Muscular Dystrophy.
Muscular Dystrophy is a life-threatening disease that affects the correct functioning of the body muscles and for which there is currently no cure.
In its severest form, the illness affects mostly children.
During National Superhero Week, organisations and members of the public dress up as superheros to raise funds towards research at the National Muscular Dystrophy Research centre, part of the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, as well as funding towards several other programs ran by Muscular Dystrophy Australia.
Muscular Dystrophy Australia’s director Boris Struck said it was heart-warming to see Halls Head locals taking part in the campaign.
“We are thrilled to have Halls Head residents and World of Kids hosting their own National Superhero Week events,” he said.
“It is a chance for school kids and adults alike to be that superhero they have always dreamed about, whilst also raising funds for our programs and research, making a difference and changing attitudes.”
Kids World staff member Toni Erdmann said the centre was happy to contribute even if it was only with $50.
“We are happy to be a part of such a good cause and we are glad that we can give back to the community as a centre,” she said.
“We did it last year as well and the children really enjoyed it, so we did it for three days this week so that more children were able to be involved.”
