New crime figures for the Peel region show while Mandurah consistently ranks in the top 10 metropolitan suburbs for offences, the city has actually experienced a slight drop in crime.
Statistics for the 2015/16 financial year released by police this week, and ranked by the West Australian, ranked Mandurah the fifth worst suburb for crime in the metropolitan policing area.
But with 919 offences – including burglary, assaults and car theft – Mandurah recorded a 2.2 per cent drop in crime on the previous year.
The only other local suburb to experience a decrease in crime was Erskine, with offences down 16.9 per cent.
At the other end of the scale, crime in North Yunderup jumped by 94.1 per cent, with 33 offences recorded.
South Yunderup and Barragup offences also rose, with increases of 63.41 per cent and 54 per cent respectively.
Wannanup, Silver Sands, Falcon, Lakelands and Coodanup all experienced significant increases in crime, while Madora Bay and Halls Head were only slightly up.
