The new Wilgie Creek pedestrian bridge and shared concrete footpath is now open for North Yunderup cyclists and pedestrians to use to safely access recreational, commercial and educational facilities in the Murray area.
The path was part of a priority project by the Shire of Murray that aimed to improve the connectivity between the Shire’s communities.
Before the bridge was constructed, local pedestrians and cyclists had to share North Yunderup Road with motorists, since it was the only access route into North Yunderup.
Through the $225,000 project, the missing link in the North Yunderup footpath network has been amended with the new 345m concrete path, including a 30m footbridge.
The project has been delivered by two local businesses, Murray Engineering and IMEC, and has been co-funded by the Department of Transport’s Regional Bicycle Network (RBN) Local Governmnet Grants Program and the Shire of Murray.
The Shire is also working on extending the existing path from North Yunderup to Pinjarra Road along Tonkin Drive, and constructing a new path on Pinjarra Road between Wilson Road and Forrest Street.
The works on the two new paths are scheduled for competition towards the end of 2016 and are part of the Shire’s Long Term Footpath and Bike Plan.
The plan aims too connect footpaths along Pinjarra Road to link the Shire of Murray’s existing footpath network with the new principal shared path on Kwinana Freeway southern extension over 10 years.
