Local start-up incubator The Makers have teamed up with Ben Elton and his production crew to give five local young people the chance to do an internship on Mr Elton’s new, locally-produced film, Three Summers, which will enter production in the latter half of 2016.
The internships are particularly aimed at local Aboriginal, refugee and at-risk young people looking to learn from professionals and make their mark on the industry.
The aim of the partnership is to build the capacity of regional young people, develop their self-confidence and inspire their interest in film production, which in turn may benefit future productions made in the region and contribute to the broader film industry and regional development.
One internship will be available, working alongside department heads, in each of the following departments: construction/set design, costume design, lighting, production (working with the producer), direction (working with the first assistant director), production accounts and camera operation.
“It is wonderful to see such strong support from the Peel Region community for a film I have wanted to make for a long time,” Mr Elton said when launching the film in Mandurah in June.
“Three Summers is a film set at a fictional music festival not much unlike Fairbridge Festival and Fairbridge Village is an ideal location for this feature film.
“We are very excited to be working with regional leaders to make Three Summers a reality and the support from the local community will greatly assist in getting this project across the line.”
The internships will begin on August 29 and run for about eight weeks, depending on the length and timing of each internship and the young person’s personal circumstances and travel arrangements.
A weekly stipend will be given to each intern to assist with costs associated with the production, such as travel and catering.
