Peel Thunder and Rockingham football product Josh Schoenfeld described notching a win in his first ever AFL game as the “best feeling in the world.”
The 19-year-old debuted for the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday and played an instrumental role in the side’s win over his supported team as a child, the Fremantle Dockers.
Schoenfeld collected 19 disposals in his inaugural AFL match and used the ball at 79 per cent efficiency, an impressive trait for an athletic defender/midfielder.
The first-gamer was elated when he spoke to BLK RAW after the match.
“Unbelievable, best feeling in the world,” Schoenfeld said.
“Words can’t describe it.”
Schoenfeld also collected eight marks and laid four tackles, saying he was happy to play his role for the side.
“I was a bit nervous coming in. Hopefully get a few touches,” he said.
“So just to contribute in the way I did, I felt like I played a role for the team and that’s what counts.
“I pride myself on that (my ball use) so to use the ball like I did was a good stepping stone and it’s just upwards from here.”
Now, the up and comer’s focus turns to the future as he looks to play the remainder of the 2016 season.
“Just (looking to) finish off the year strong,” Schoenfeld said.
“Hopefully play the last few games and just build on for next year because this part of the year’s just about me improving and that’s what I want to do.”
Schoenfeld was taken with pick 34 in the 2015 national draft, after playing 20 colts games with Peel Thunder, where he averaged 21.6 disposals per game and booted six goals, five behinds.
