Whether you’re chasing the sun along the Great Northern Highway or discovering Western Australia’s wildflower season - you can still help make a difference to Australia by being counted in the 2016 Census of Population and Housing on Tuesday, August 9.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is preparing to count close to 10 million dwellings and approximately 24 million people across the nation, including the thousands of domestic and international tourists exploring some of WA’s 2.5 million square kilometres on the night.
WA Census Director David Waymouth said the ABS has been working with visitor centres to ensure information and advice about the Census is available to all travellers.
“This is a popular time of the year for people to hit the road and experience some of what WA has to offer,” Mr Waymouth said.
“We need to make sure they still have every opportunity to be counted,.
“Even if they’re spending the night in a tour bus, hostel or caravan park.
“Interstate and international visitors must also be counted.
“We need people to state their exact location on the night of the Census.”
Field Officers will be based in some off-road locations and rest stops in remote areas of WA to ensure everyone has access to a Census form.
The ABS is also encouraging travellers to complete the Census online to make the process quicker and easier.
From July 24, the ABS will be launching its national campaign to encourage everyone to pause and play a role in shaping the future of Australia.
Census data will guide billions of dollars of funding for infrastructure and services across WA.
It also provides valuable data that supports the state’s destination tourism.
