Belting out three rounds of sell-out sounds over the past three weeks, Ravenswood Hotel’s first round of Record Club Showcases wrapped up last weekend.
July 17 saw The Brown Study Band tear though Pearl Jam’s seminal album Ten, while on July 23 supergroup The Dead Flowers – which featured ex-members of You Am I, The Clash, The Go Set and Datura, as well as Tom Fisher, frontman of The Layabouts – performed The Rolling Stones’ Sticky Fingers right the way through.
The shows followed The Gunner’s rendition of Guns N’ Roses legendary Appetite For Destruction, which brought the house down and set the tempo for the rest of the series.
“The Gunners dropped Appetite for Destruction to a packed room of adoring fans, while the Brown Study Band performed Ten to a 300-strong crowd, the highlight being an encore set where the audience sang the chorus to Daughter at the top of their lungs,” organiser Dave Feenstra said.
“The final in the series was a stellar performance from a supergroup performing the Rolling Stones’ classic album to perfection.
Mr Feenstra said the series had been an impressive success, and showed there was room for alternative music events in Mandurah.
“It is important to remember the Record Club Roadshow is not a bunch of cover bands playing a bunch of covers; these are all members of some of Perth's top bands that have come together to learn and perform an iconic album in its entirety,” he said.
“The Record Club Roadshow is so much more than a gig. It is a full concert experience.”
The Ravo and Mr Feenstra are in the midst of organising round number two, which is ecpected to hit later in the year. Keep an eye on Record Club Roadshow’s Facebook page for details.
