The Epoch Times is best-known as an independent Chinese-language news source that rivals the tight censorship of the Chinese government and is often critical of human rights issues within the country.
The paper circulates to about 13,000 Chinese migrants living in Perth.
On July 20 the year 7 media students at Mandurah Baptist College were visited by Frank Zhao, the Epoch Times’ account manager.
Mr Zhao spoke about his role and different methods he used in gaining more advertisers for his newspaper, and answered questions from the students.
He also showed a video about the Epoch Times and its worldwide networks.
“The incursion was based around the year 7 media program where they look at advertising techniques,” media teacher Bernard Hart said.
The students also learnt about how the Chinese market in particular position their advertising and how it has progressed over time to be the industry it is today.
“The visit was a follow up to our Chinese Film Festival… and was part of looking at ways we can advertise the festival to more local Chinese people,” Mr Hart said.
