The City of Mandurah voted unanimously to engage in a three year lease with developer ISPT for the establishment of a new library and community centre at the currently under construction Lakelands shopping centre.
The new $2.47 million library will function independently from the shopping centre, it will have its own separate entrance and its own accessible toilet facilities.
It will have an open floor plan with several movable walls to allow for maximum flexibility in its use.
The project seeks to accommodate North Mandurah’s fast growing population and it is aimed to be up and running by mid 2017.
Initially, the City sought to construct a new building outside the shopping centre premises but the lack of funding available to deliver the project brought the City into looking for more viable options.
