Mandurah voters braved a chilly morning on Saturday to cast their votes in the 2016 federal election.
Across the electorate of Canning, which includes Mandurah and the Peel region, almost 100,000 people were expected to cast a vote at one of 41 polling booths around the district.
Canning MP Andrew Hastie cast his vote in Jarrahdale in the morning before spending the afternoon on last minute campaigning in the southern part of the electorate including Mandurah.
Labor’s Barry Winmar was spending the day campaigning on a polling booth in Falcon.
Earlier on Saturday, a Labor campaign worker sparked controversy after accusations he verbally abused Liberal volunteers.
Around the electorate, community organisations put on fundraising sausage sizzles, including many school parents and citizens associations, who were expected to raised thousands.
At Billy Dower Youth Centre Charlotte Esmond, 13, and Romanni Jones, 11, were running a sausage sizzle to raise funds to attend the national ice skating championships in Melbourne in November.
Polls close at 6pm when counting is expected to commence immediately.
