Tensions at polling booths in Canning have boiled over with reports a banned Labor campaign volunteer abused young female Liberal workers on Saturday morning before polls opened.
The man, who was setting up Labor’s booth posters at Mandurah Primary School early Saturday morning, referred to the women as “f***ing maggots”.
One of the women, who asked not to be named, said she felt intimidated by the man.
On Wednesday, the same man was dumped from Labor’s campaign for Barry Winmar after he allegedly told employment minister Michaelia Cash that he hoped the bundle of how-to-vote flyers she was holding was a bomb and “I hope it f***ing explodes”.
Labor's WA campaign director Patrick Gorman told The West Australian that volunteers were expected to be courteous at all times.
“As these standards have not been met this volunteer will no longer be part of our 2016 Federal Election efforts,” he said on Wednesday.
However, the man was working on the polling booth for Labor on Saturday morning, helping to set up Labor campaign material and fixing signs at Mandurah Primary School.
Labor has been contacted for comment.
