Councillors Caroline Knight and Ron Wortley, Dr Kim Hames MLA and several other City officers got a preview of the new facilities at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre on Friday.
The new building currently under construction is part of the stage two of the development and is due to be up and running mid next year.
The building will include the Mandurah basketball association facilities, two new courts, a handful of dry changing facilities, rooms for fitness and health, an outdoor training area, administration and office facilities, a cafe, and a creche area among others.
The new facility has been designed to allow maximum flexibility in its use, with all the rooms available to be rented for public functions to clubs, schools and organisations.
City of Mandurah manager of recreation and services Craig Johnson said despite some small flooding due to the heavy rains in the last few weeks the development was going according to plan and it would be ready mid next year.
