Mandurah will come to life next week to celebrate NAIDOC week on Monday.
NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia, in an attempt to give support to each local community.
This year’s event will kick off with a community walk from the eastern foreshore to Mandjar Square at 4.30 pm and will then move onto a wide range of activities for the whole family.
Children and adults will be able to enjoy face painting, story time and a Yuburgurt activity.
The event will also include the announcement of the Bindjareb Art Awards at the Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery, inside the Mandurah Performing Art Centre.
Throughout the week, several other activities will be taking place in Mandurah to honour the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The Mandurah Community Museum will be showcasing the artworks of Bindjareb artist Gloria Kearing, and a Yarning about Yaburgurt session will take place at the Museum by aboriginal elder George Walley..
The initiative will celebrate the history and heritage of Mandurah through story telling and music.
