Local man Jayden Quartermaine is close to fulfilling his dream of becoming a police officer.
The 18-year-old has been recently accepted as a police cadet and is working hard with his supervisor Senior Sergeant Steve Thompson to become a recruit.
Mr Quartermaine has been working hand in hand with Nidjalla Waangan Mia who assisted him providing health support and medical referrals, and Mandurah police throughout the application process.
Nidjalla Waangan Mia has been providing health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Peel region since 2010.
The young cadet has already faced some negative comments about his decision to become a policeman, but he said he was committed to pursuing his dream and working hard to change the negative connotations of the profession among Aboriginal people.
“I want to show young Aboriginals that nothing should stop us, that we can follow our dreams no matter what they are,” Mr Quartermaine said.
Mr Quartermaine has several talks scheduled to tell his story and encourage young people to follow their dreams.
He will find out in a few months if he has been accepted as a recruit.
