A Perth man sacked from his airport job after he shared Islamic extremist posts on Facebook and commented "We all support ISIS" told a Fair Work Commission hearing on Tuesday his comments were "sarcastic".
Nirmal Singh lodged an unfair dismissal claim with the commission after he was fired in October from Aerocare, for whom he had worked casually at Perth Airport for 18 months.
His employment meant he had security access to restricted areas within the airport working to airlines including Tiger Airways, Jetstar and Virgin Australia.
He was dismissed after three Facebook posts posted from Mr Singh's alias account, allegedly voiced support for ISIS and Muslim extremism.
One of the posts shared a post from global Islamic extremist group, HT Australia, with his comment "We all support ISIS".
In another, Mr Singh shared a post of a news story about Sydney police employee Curtis Cheng who was shot dead by an Islamic extremist in October.
The third was a video Mr Singh shared by patriotic party, Britain First, that was titled "That we will destroy America, that we will destroy Britain".
A further two posts, depicting Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, were also submitted to the commission but details of those posts were yet to be discussed on Tuesday afternoon.
Mr Singh claimed he was dismissed unfairly and that he did not believe he had breached Aerocare's social media policy.
During cross-examination, Aerocare witness Greg Shelly admitted he believed only two of the five posts listed breached their policy, citing they caused harm to Aerocare's brand and were "extremely alarming" given the circumstances of global aviation.
Mr Signh told the commission, however, he believed Islamic extremism was "bad" for "Australia and human kind" and that he only shared posts to highlight how "stupid" it was.
"There is no post that threatens anyone or names anyone," Mr Singh said.
"I have kept my personal and professional life private.
"Having a view is not bad, I have never expressed these views at Aerocare."
Mr Singh confirmed during the hearing that he had received training about airport security and the seriousness of "joking about being a member of a terrorist group" and "making jokes about security issues".
He also agreed if another coworker had posted his Facebook comments, he would have reported the matter the the Australian Federal Police and airport security, but not his employer.
"Obviously, 100 per cent... any jokes... are to be taken seriously," Mr Singh said.
Mr Singh got a new job in a similar role with an Aerocare competitor less than two months after being fired and regained his previously cancelled Aviation Security Identity Card from Perth Airport at that time.
WAToday understands Mr Singh was recently stood down from his current role after his employer learnt of the reasons for his previous dismissal.
Aerocare will call four witnesses at Tuesday's hearing.
Mr Singh is representing himself.
