The new Woolworths in Greenfields officially opened on Wednesday morning.
The brand new store located in Eaglemont Street is one of the most modern Woolworths supermarkets in Australia and will provide job opportunities for 116 new employees.
The store has celebrated their official opening by sponsoring two local entities: Greenfields Primary School and Mandurah Mustangs Football Club.
Both entities received a $1000-worth check to invest on their programs.
The opening ceremony included a speeches from the store manager and Noongar residents, who acknowledged the traditional ownership of the land and congratulated Woolworths for their new shop.
Local MP Andrew Hastie also attended the event and express the need to open more services for a growing population.
“I know we come here to buy our food, but this store is going to be so much more than that,” Mr Hastie said.
“It’s going to be somewhere where you can come and see your community; it will be somewhere where you see someone from the local footy or the cricket tea, catch up with your neighbour and come and get your morning coffee on the way to work.”
Greenfields Primary School students Breanna Francis and Dylan Subotich were in charge of cutting the ribbon, opening the store officially to the public.
The store will be now open 8am to 6pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 8am to 9pm Thursdays and 10am to 5pm Sundays.
