Coodanup mother Candice Pitcher claims to have the world’s largest goldfish.
She said Goldie is a common goldfish, and though she hasn’t measured him yet, she estimates him to be about 50cm.
“When I bought him I actually got him as a live food for my other fish… I bought five, he ate the other four and let [Goldie] live.”
She cites a combination of meat-based food, a water heater and the Mandurah water as the key to Goldie’s size.
Goldie’s official length will be confirmed on June 12, when he is officially measured at the annual Koi Society show in Canningvale.
“You have to have a proper vet or zoologist do the measuring so I’ve been in contact with the fish vet,” Ms Pitcher said.
The current Guinness world record for goldfish length was won by a fish from Denmark in 2003 and stands at 47.4cm.
