The Southern Districts Bush Fire Brigade are now in a better position to protect life, property and the environment from wild fires thanks to the delivery of new fire fighting equipment.
A brand new firefighting truck was delivered as a ‘surprise’ to the brigade on the April 29.
Members were extremely happy to receive the new 4WD appliance, with a 3000 litre capacity that will increase the firefighting capability in the southern area of Mandurah.
Department of Fire and Emergency Services District Officer Terry Wegwermer and City of Mandurah Coordinator Emergency Management Myra Giardini facilitated the vehicle handover, later celebrating the delivery at the brigade’s annual dinner.
Chief Executive Officer Mark Newman said the work the City does with its emergency service partners is vital to ensure the community is protected.
“It’s vital that our emergency service personnel are well equipped to manage fires and this new truck is a great asset to the Mandurah Southern Districts Bush Fire Brigade and our community,” he said.
“The work that our emergency service volunteers do is extremely important for our community – not only by reducing the risks to life and property, but also to our valued ecology which can be devastated by high intensity bushfires.”
The Southern Districts Bush Fire Brigade’s fire vehicles are supported by the Emergency Service Levy.
