Fremantle superstar Nat Fyfe could become one of the richest players in the AFL, with the club set to sign the midfield gun on a new lucrative, long-term deal.
With the reigning Brownlow Medallist likely to miss a large chunk of the season after having surgery to his broken leg last week, the Dockers would be keen to get the 24-year-old to agree to a new deal before Fyfe becomes a free agent at the end of next season.
And the bottom-of-the table Dockers would be keen to lock in the Lake Grace product, with rumours classy on-baller Lachie Neale could be heading back to Adelaide.
Twenty-two year old Neale's contract runs out at the end of this season.
The winless Dockers have no hope of playing finals this year, so the club will need a player of Fyfe's talent to rebuild a new team around in the coming years.
With the Dockers likely to have a massive player clean out at the year end with a number of players out of contract, the club could have some wriggle room within its salary gap to offer Fyfe a huge deal.
According to The Sunday Times, Fyfe could earn as much as $1 million a year if he signs a new four-five contract with the Dockers.
But the club is likely to keep any offer off the table until the AFL's new collective bargaining agreement negotiations are finalised at the end of the year.
Fyfe's manager Jason Dover said Fyfe didn't want to talk contract extensions.
"He still has almost two years to go on his contract and a lot of things to play out this year in terms of the new collective bargaining agreement and other things to look at," Dover told The Sunday Times.
"We don't even know what this year looks like in terms of him playing yet.
"There's so much in the short-term that Nat needs to focus on and work out, before we worry about contract extensions."
