Local members of the Liberal party will meet on Saturday morning to select a candidate to replace retiring MP Kim Hames.
Six candidates nominated for the hotly contested preselection, including Premier Colin Barnett’s former environment adviser Zak Kirkup, Navy veteran Martin Holzberger and Mandurah City councillor Dave Schumacher.
Local lawyer James Versteegen also entered the race.
Stretching from Herron in the south of the seat to Halls Head in the north, Dawesville is considered one of the Liberal party’s safest electorates.
The result of Saturday morning’s ballot will known by the afternoon and will have to be ratified by Liberal state council.
