MANDURAH’S youth unemployment rate sits higher than Perth’s inner and North East regions according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics data.
The anti poverty organisation, Brotherhood of St Laurence analysed the data and released Australia’s Youth Unemployment Hotspots report this month.
With 11.9 per cent of Mandurah youths between 15 to 24-years-old unemployed the region is the third highest out of five.
Sitting higher than Mandurah is Perth North West at 14.5 per cent and Western Australia Wheat Belt with 12.6 per cent.
The national rate is at 12.2 per cent (trend rate in January 2016) and remains well above the levels before the global financial crisis in 2008.
According to the report young people at this age continue to be at higher risk of unemployment than other age groups.
Western Australia has the second lowest unemployment rate in the country with 10.7 per cent compared to the highest, South Australia with 15.5 per cent.
