INSPIRING Mandurah students to find what they are passionate about has seen former Mandurah Catholic College student, Cassie Fox, nominated in the Western Australian Young Achiever Awards.
At just 26-years-old Ms Fox has developed a range of resilience and entrepreneurial workshops in schools and speaks externally on topics including risk, creativity and building an idea.
With a background in communications, international aid and innovation Ms Fox created IZRA Schools and IZRA Online two years ago to connect young Australians.
Ms Fox moved to Mandurah in her final year of school and said she went from top of the class to “failing everything”.
“Nobody really wanted a new friend in year 12,” she said.
“I hit rock bottom and I just couldn’t imagine things could get better even though I had a supportive family and amazing upbringing.”
Ms Fox said this highlighted how easy it was for students to fall short.
“So if there’s anything I can do, with some tools for resilience, to cope with those challenges than I want to do that,” she said.
“I don’t care if they become a DJ, if they (students) can find something they are passionate about and they can learn some self discipline through it, then other things in life may not rock them as much.”
Cassie with her team of ten creatives has delivered the School to Career Transitional Workshops in several Mandurah primary and high schools.
“I think it’s really important to have ongoing support after the program with our online content and we also follow-up with support services,” she said.
“We want to make good choices look attractive.”
Cassie was nominated in the Catholic Education Western Australia Young Leadership Award, one of six categories in the awards.
The awards aim to encourage, reward and promote the positive achievements of young Western Australians up to 29 years of age.
Finalists will be presented and winners announced at an Awards Gala Presentation Dinner at the Parmelia Hilton on May 13.
