OCEAN Road Primary School officially welcomed their new principal with a special assembly and morning tea on Friday.
Former principal Dean Finlay was promoted to a position at the Department of Education's Institute of Professional Learning for 12 months.
Principal Ashley Mottershead said she was excited about her new role at the school and couldn’t wait to get involved with the local community.
“I grew up on a station farm in Carnarvon and my previous job was at a school in Lake Grace so I enjoy the regional lifestyle,” she said.
With more than 25 years experience teaching Ms Mottershead said she was looking forward to refining an already good practice at the school.
“It’s a high performance school with dedicated staff and visible learning growth,” she said.
Ms Mottershead has big shoes to fill after former principal Mr Finlay was a finalist in the Western Australia primary school leader of the year 2015.
Year 6 student councillor Siene Bishop said she was very excited about the new principal but sad to see Mr Finlay go.
“I’m looking forward to representing the school this year and learning from Ms Mottershead,” she said.
