MANDURAH Catholic College student Ben Hollow has returned from Adelaide where he competed in the South Australian State Championships.
Travelling independently with his coach and four team mates from Rockingham Swimming Club, Ben qualified for 14 events, making for a heavy workload during the four-day meet.
Having turned 12 the day before the meet commenced, saw him swim against competitors almost a year older than him.
Adjusting to the new experience of a heat and finals format, Ben gained finals placings in all events.
He went on to win gold medals in the 50metre and 100m breaststroke events, followed by a massive 6.91 second personal best time, which gained him a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke.
Ben also won silver in the 400m freestyle, 200m and 400m individual medley and a bronze in the 100m butterfly.
Challenging himself in the longer distances Ben also produced a 16.71-second personal best time to finish in fifth place in the 13 and under age group for the 800m freestyle.
Ben is currently training in preparation for upcoming WA State Championships in April.
