INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed artist Kyle Hughes-Odgers visited Halls Head College on Monday where he will paint a mural on one of the college’s new buildings.
Mr Hughes-Odgers is an Australian visual artist who has exhibited and created public artwork throughout Australia and internationally in cities from New York to London to Berlin.
The talented artist has also had a 3D and LED light installation installed in the exterior of the 2014 – Perth International Airport.
The Halls Head College was able to acquire Mr Hughes-Odgers services after Head of Arts at the college, David McLeish, successfully applied for an Innovation Grant last year for a community mural project.
Mr McLeish said the grant had given the college the opportunity to have Mr Hughes-Odgers work with some of the schools art classes which he did on Monday to produce small scale artworks based around concepts of unity and diversity.
Mr Hughes-Odgers said he would take inspiration from the students’ artwork and incorporate them into his mural which is set to be completed by the end of term one.
“I’m really looking forward to it [painting the mural],” he said.
“I’ve never done a mural so big.”
Mr Hughes-Odgers said growing up he had never had the opportunity to a see a large outside public artwork being completed and said it would be a great opportunity for students interested in art.
Mr McLeish said a selection of the students’ artwork would also be displayed in an exhibition when the mural is complete.
