A decision to spend a night in a Northbridge hotel after a late work meeting had an expensive post script for a Bunbury man when he was fined for overnight parking - despite having paid for it.
Chenxi Zhuang booked into Nest on Northbridge, which offered a discounted rate at Wilson Parking, and found a spot on the upper deck at Northbridge Central carparking in Errichetti Place on Friday evening.
The parking station offered the smartphone Book-a-Bay system.
"I'm no stranger to cashless, online parking systems and have used them regularly," Mr Zhuang said.
"I paid $15 to park between 7pm until 10am the next day."
He received an email to confirm the transaction was in the Wilson system, but next morning he returned to his car to find a $65 fine.
It was then Mr Zhuang studied the fine print to find that he was also required to print and display a copy of the confirmation on his dashboard.
"I have to admit I didn't read the confirmation at all, other than the email title," the 27-year-old said.
"But how am I suppose to print it off? Couldn't Wilson's parking inspectors check their records before they issue the fine - like every other online parking payment system?"
"Nowhere did their terms and conditions inform users that they have to carry a printer with them at all times."
Chief executive of parking, Wilson Parking Australia, Steve Evans, said if Mr Zhuang contacted Wilson with his payment reference number, the breach could simply be cancelled.
"Displaying the print-out is clearly stated as a requirement when booking, however, we are obviously happy to cancel any breach where payment is evident," he said.
Mr Evans said the discount product (bookabay.com.au) was a different product to the Wilson Epark app.
"Epark recognises paid vehicles without needing to display a receipt while Book-a-Bay is being upgraded to deliver the same functionality for our valued parkers," he said.
