A MANDURAH private school teacher has resigned following claims of an inappropriate relationship with a student.
In a letter sent to parents on January 28, the school’s principal advised of an “alleged issue relating to child safety”.
The principal made no reference to the specifics of the issue, but said the matter was under investigation.
The principal said all individuals concerned were being provided with “appropriate support”. The principal also encouraged parents to make an appointment if they had concerns over the issue.
School staff members are understood to have been issued a warning not to speak about the matter.
A spokesperson for the school said the department was notified on January 22 of an allegation involving child safety at “one of its colleges”.
“The college’s highest priority is the safety and wellbeing of their students,” the spokesperson said.
“[Our education policy] is underpinned by extensive child protection policies and procedures and support has been offered to all parties involved. “As the matter is currently being investigated, no further information can be provided.”
Police confirmed yesterday a complaint had been made concerning a teacher in a school in the Peel region.
“The matter is currently being investigated,” WA Police media spokesperson Ros Weatherall said.
In a message sent yesterday the teacher referred all questions regarding the issue to her lawyer, John Mazza, who made no comment.
