PREMIER Colin Barnett declared the Waroona fires a natural disaster on Saturday morning after visiting those who had lost their homes at the Pinjarra evacuation centre.
Mr Barnett said the fires had devastated several communities and the activation of natural disaster support would release emergency funds to individuals and families, as well local governments.
He praised the spirit of locals who had lost everything and others who had come together to support them.
"Talking to people who've lost their homes, you have to admire their spirit; it's a terrible thing to happen and with the support of the volunteer groups, and the community organisations, it's really heartening to see how Australians respond," he said.
Mr Barnett said the state government had contributed $1 million to the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund to help individuals and families re-establish themselves.
"The damage bill is going to be very significant, a large one," he said.
"This has been a really devastating fire, a huge fire both in terms of the nearly 70,000 hectares it covers and there are still three people unaccounted for, which is a concern and there have been around 120 houses lost."
Mr Barnett said fire-fighting conditions were better today, but the fires were still dangerous.
"We see the very best of Australia when we have a serious natural disaster," he said.
"I'm just in awe of the emergency services, their professionalism, the guys who've been out there fighting the fire for 30 hours on end.
"Exhaustion is coming in and we're pleased a contingent of around 75 fire fighters are coming today and I very much appreciate the support of the New South Wales government in doing that."
Mr Barnett urged people to donate to the Lord Mayor's fund.
Fire commissioner Wayne Gregson confirmed that three people were still unaccounted for.
Although not releasing details, he said the "three people on my list yesterday as missing, are still missing".
Canning MP Andrew Hastie said he had spoken to the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull this morning, who had asked him to convey to those affected his sympathy for the loss of their homes and businesses.
"Particularly, the people of Yarloop, who have also lost 121 years of history,"
"He asked me to pass on his thanks to the volunteers, who is very exacting conditions are fighting the fire and providing relief to those affected."
