WAROONA residents are still fleeing the town for the Pinjarra evacuation centre with power outages for those who have stayed to defend their properties.
The centre had 200 residents registered on Friday morning with 50 staying overnight.
Resident Jessie Crookshanks decided he had to evacuate when his house filled with smoke late Thursday night.
"It was hectic, the house was filled in two minutes and I could only see 10 meters in front of me when I went outside," he said.
Mr Crookshanks said he could hear neighbours "freaking out" so he jumped in his car and headed for Pinjarra leaving some family behind.
As Mr Crookshanks was speaking to the Mail some of his family arrived with news of what had survived the night.
According to Russell Joker Mr Crookshanks' house was still standing as well as Waroona Caravan Park.
"Coates Hire is gone, the golf course, the left side of Coronation Road to Preston and the South West bridge," Mr Joker said.
"It's pretty bad.
"Fire embers are dropping almost the size of my palm and half the town is still there."
Mr Joker said people in Waroona were trying to get access to generators as he was leaving.
