DESPITE rumours from Perth media that Belvedere Caravan Park will be closing down, Caravan Industry Association chief Simon Glossop says there has not and will not been any closures in Mandurah.
Perth Now reported last week that Belvedere Caravan Park in Mandurah was “rumoured to be closing to make way for apartment development”.
The article said the parks were being killed off by high-density development and a new push from the Barnett Government for tourist-only parks.
In 2010 the owner of the Belvedere park applied to Council to consider plans to redevelop the four-hectare site.
A City of Mandurah spokesperson said the Development Guide Plan over the site was extended for a further three years this year.
“At this stage we do not know when the site is expected to be developed,” she said.
Mr Glossop said he didn’t have any exact statistics on park closures in the Mandurah area but there had not been any in the last three years that he was aware of.
“We would like to see more land made available for adding to the number of caravan parks, both residential and tourist parks,” he said.
A report detailing proposed changes to tenancy laws affecting people living in residential parks in Western Australia was released last week to allow people to submit comments before the Government makes a decision.
The report contains recommendations for changes to the Residential Parks (Long-stay Tenants) Act 2006.
The laws regulate the tenancy arrangements between the operators of residential parks and their tenants, most of whom own the homes in which they live but only rent the land on which they are located.
Mr Glossop said he hoped the final recommendations in the review would continue to be the same as they were.
“There needs to be more inclusion with people buying a park home and the park operator to make sure that the potential buyer is fully informed as to what they are buying when they buy a park home,” he said.
