There were dramatic scenes at Langley Park in the centre of Perth on Saturday afternoon as firefighters battled what looked like a plane crash.
Other rescue teams had to deal with road crashes and other first aid emergencies.
But no-one was hurt - it was all part of the Mining Emergency Response Exercise, which is now in its fifth year.
Nine teams competed with each other to see which responded best to a list of nightmarish exercises including carrying out rescues in confined spaces and dealing with hazardous materials.
A delegation from Laos was on hand to watch the exercise. The Laotian government is working towards improving safety and reducing fatalities its mining industry.
"WA's expertise in this area is in international demand," Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion said.
