MANDURAH’S True Grit Muay Thai Gym owner Chantel Green has become the first ever female nominated for the Youth Trainer of the Year award at the Australian Muay Thai Awards.
The awards will be held in Sydney on December 12 with Green now needing the communities help to vote for her from the five nominated in her category.
Green retired from the ring last month after a career which saw her win the Western Australia State Light Flyweight Muay Thai championshp however her time as a trainer is going forward in leaps and bounds.
Two of Green’s junior fighters, Saskia Vaughan (16) and Shannon Gardiner (13), recently won their divisions of the IFMA National Muay Thai competition in Queensland to make the Australian team.
The pair will now travel to the World Championship held in Sweden in May, 2016.
Green was also influential in getting the Junior Muay Thai fight show to Mandurah with the event now a bi-annual event.
Green said she was honoured to make the finals of the awards.
“It’s the first time a female has been selected in the trainers’ category,” she said.
“I’m up against trainers from some of the big gyms around Australia.”
Green, who currently has five juniors fighting and more than 40 training, said she really enjoys training the young fighters.
“I try to get the best out of them,” she said.
Green said she had helped a number of her students deal with bullying issues, self esteem issues and anger problems through training programs.
