FOUR local swimmers from the regional division of Kingsway Swimming Club won gold at Bunbury Open Carnival on Sunday.
The youngest member of the club was 10-year-old Adriaan van Zyl who competed in six events winning gold in each.
The talented swimmer also broke the meet record in the 10 and under 100-metre butterfly.
Eleven-year-old Sarah Lea competed in six events winning three gold, two silver and one bronze medal.
It was a good effort for the local swimmer who competed against a strong 12-year-old field as an 11-year-old.
Kendal Purnell (12) won three gold and three silver medals from her six events, in the process breaking the meet record for the 12 and under 100m freestyle.
Sophie Vergone (14) competed in eight events winning six gold and two silver medals.
Sophie also broke a staggering five meet records including one that had stood since 2004 .
Club member Jacobus van Zyl also competed recording personal best times in all of his swims.
Overall the five swimmers finished with 31 personal best times, 18 gold medals, seven silver, one bronze and set seven meet records.
It capped off a good fortnight for the club after Sophie recorded seven national qualifying times at the first qualifying meet for the new long course season on October 24 and 25.
It equalled what she achieved in national times for last year’s whole season.
The local swimmers are all members of the high performance regional division of Kingsway Swimming Club that train out of the Murray Leisure Centre.
