TAKE a seat Waugh brothers these two Mandurah siblings could be the next big things in cricket after both were selected in state teams.
Brother and sister, Teague and Georgia Wyllie are Mandurah Cricket Club team-mates and now both will represent their state for the first time, be in different teams.
Fourteen-year-old Georgia will travel to Hobart later this month after gaining selection in the Western Australia under 15 national girls team.
The pace bowler was scouted by a WACA representative during one of her games with the Mandurah Cricket Club under 13s boys team.
Georgia said she plays with the boys as the girl’s competition isn’t as strong.
“I’ve been playing with the boys for four years so they’re used to it,” she said.
“When I first started some wouldn’t shake my hand.
“Now they’re scared of me; it’s great.”
After gaining selection in the initial 25-person squad Georgia had to complete a 10-week program where the final 13-girl team was selected.
“It’s really exciting,” she said.
Teague was selected in the first ever WA under 12s State School Boys team from more than 120 boys who tried out.
The group was initially cut down to a 26-man squad before the final 13 – plus three reserves – were selected to travel to Brisbane in January next year.
A batting all-rounder, Teague has been playing since he was two.
Cricket runs through the veins of the young duo with their father John Wyllie an accomplished cricketer with Mandurah with a stand at the Meadow Springs Sport Complex named after him.
Teague has even lined up alongside his father in D-grade last year as a nine-year-old.
On one particular occasion he paired up with his father for a 65-run partnership.
So where to next for Georgia and Teague? While both said they want to one day play for Australia.
“I want to play at least one test,” Teague said.
Georgia said she hope to be selected in the Western Fury side and then go on to play for Australia.
Georgia’s trip to Hobart is funded by the WACA but Teague isn’t so lucky with his family having to foot the bill.
