Mandurah's first Brazilian soccer school for girls and boys was launched on the weekend with crowds of children in attendance.
BrazRoos, a program for two- to 12-year-olds designed to teach predominantly Brazilian-style soccer in a friendly environment, held two free opening session in Halls Head on Saturday and in Meadow Springs on Sunday.
BrazRoos was founded by Brazilian-born head coaches, Jose dos Santos and Mario de Luna with the help and assistance of Audrey de Luna and Jo dos Santos.
dos Santos is a professional international soccer player, starting his career as a 17-year-old for the São Paulo, Corinthians.
After being scouted he moved to France to ply his trade before going on to play in Romania, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Indonesia and Australian and is currently playing for Mandurah City Football Club.
de Luna has played soccer since he was six years old, predominantly indoor, in Brazil, France and Switzerland before discovering a passion in coaching.
He moved to Australia in 2009 and began coaching children in 2011.
The pair was put in contact with each other two years ago after their children both played on the foreshore playground.
dos Santos said they both had the dream of teaching children the Brazilian-style soccer and with that, BrazRoos born.
He said the program aimed to create the best possible experience for both parent and child, to achieve the highest success and enjoyment.
“During our sessions we want kids to have fun while teaching soccer skills displayed by international Brazilian players or how to Samba with the ball,” he said.
The sessions will be held each Saturday at Halls Head Primary School and Sunday at Meadow Springs Primary School’s sporting grounds.
The first session is free.
