The intersection of Mandurah Road and Surf Drive has been identified by the RAC as one of the riskiest in Western Australia, after nominations were sought from the community.
The list, which was released by the RAC to highlight roads requiring upgrades, shows 20 roads and intersections and the progress made by government in fixing them.
RAC General Manager Corporate Affairs Will Golsby said the risky roads scorecard was developed over the past 12 months.
“These results highlight the need for the State Government to deliver more funding, but the current State budget only confirms a reduction in spending,” Mr Golsby said.
The Mandurah Road and Surf Drive intersection has been the scene of accidents and at least one fatality, with a motorcyclist killed there in March last year.
The intersection made the list for inadequate crossing or turning opportunities, the high speed of vehicles and its confusing intersection layout.
The RAC’s Risky Roads campaign is WA’s largest road infrastructure community survey and is undertaken to provide a snapshot of community perceptions, insight for road authorities and assist in identifying trends in traffic flow, infrastructure and safety.
