TWO Pinjarra Football Club players were the only local players to poll in Monday night’s Brownlow Medal Count which saw Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe claim the award with 31 votes.
Harley Bennell led the way for the local contingent with seven votes while Kamdyn McIntosh recorded his first two Brownlow votes of his career.
Although he will be leaving the club this year after a tremulous season, Bennell topped the count for the Gold Coast Suns to take his career tally to 26.
Bennell opened his account in round two, polling two votes in the Suns’ 18.10 (118) to 7.12 (54) win against the Brisbane Lions.
The 22-year-old gathered 31 disposals and slotted two goals in his side’s big win.
The Pinjarra product had to wait to round 17 before polling again, this time on the back of a 39-disposal game in the Suns 19.11 (125) to 12.8 (80) loss against Adelaide.
It was his first game back after a three week absence after photos emerged of him with white powder.
Bennell backed up the performance the following week with a best-on-ground, three-vote performance in a drawn game against the West Coast Eagles.
In a see-sawing game where there were five lead changes in the last quarter Bennell starred with 28 disposals and a goal.
Richmond’s McIntosh had to wait until the second last round of the season to record his first votes.
The wingman collected 27 disposals and had seven marks in his side’s 27-points victory against Essendon.
McIntosh was predicted to poll three votes in his AFL debut in round one which saw him get a Rising Star Award nomination after 23 disposals, nine marks and a goal but failed to poll.
