THE OCEAN Road Primary School principal is a finalist in the Western Australia primary school leader of the year award after his “amazing efforts” with students and the community.
The WA Education Awards honour and reward the best teachers, leaders and support staff in public schools across the state.
Ocean Road Primary School registrar Emily Carlyle said she nominated principal Dean Finlay because of the amazing job he had done during the last eight years.
“He cares about the students and the school has come so far because of this,” she said.
Principal Finlay was excited to learn about his achievement when he returned from a trip to Singapore on Tuesday morning.
“I’m a finalist with three other principals from across the state so I’m looking forward to the verdict on November 30,” he said.
After teaching for more than 25 years principal Finlay said the most exciting thing about his work was the team and culture developed at Ocean Road Primary School.
“Everyone works towards the same goals here and I‘ve been able to achieve what I have because of the team,” he said.
“Whether you are the gardener, cleaner or canteen manager everyone is valued equally.
“We’ve created a true school community.”
The Western Australia Premier’s Primary Teacher of the Year award receives $25,000 for professional development and three finalists each receive $2500.
