Singleton Primary School was recognised for making an outstanding contribution to developing money management skills by the Commonwealth Bank.
Numeracy teacher Shelia Griffin has won the CommBank Teaching Award and $10,000 to invest in the school’s financial education program.
Ms Griffin has been teaching the ASIC MoneySmart program to students since 2013.
Year 4 student Jye Donald said he enjoyed learning about how to save his money.
“At the moment I’m saving my birthday money because I really want to buy a new BMX bike,” he said.
Ms Griffin said the reward would go towards ensuring students gained a deeper understanding of spending, saving, donating and investing money.
“I was excited when I heard of the win and I’m looking forward to setting up more role-play businesses throughout the school,” she said.
The awards recognise and reward teachers from schools across Australia who make an outstanding contribution to developing money management skills.
There are 15 awards of $10,000 for each teacher to invest in their school's financial education program.
