It was a busy day at Mandurah Baptist College last Friday, with a visit from Young Australian of the Year Drisana Levitzke-Gray and the end of Book Week celebrations.
The special visit from Drisana Levitzke-Gray came about as a request from Year 12 students, Andrea Taylor and Alanna Timms who, as part of the year 12 curriculum, did a documentary about Ms Levitze-Gray.
She arrived to do an interview with media students as well as to speak to teacher Adele Henns’ Year 7 Christian Education class.
Indigenous Elder, George Walley, who is also Traditional Owner and Historian (chairman) of the Yaburgurt Reference Group came down to honour Ms Levitze-Gray with a Welcome to Country.
Julian Canny, a comedian who writes comedy scripts also made an appearance on the day to be interviewed for a ‘mockumentary’ some students are doing.
Led by Lynne Sim from the College library, the senior English faculty and student counsellors celebrated the end of Book Week with Storybook Character Costume Dress Day.
Students had the option to dress as their favourite book character for a gold coin donation.
