A YOUNG mother was devastated to discover that her car had been stolen from her home on Parade Road and set on fire this morning.
But she has been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of the local community in helping get her back on her feet.
Angela Salmon said her partner got up to go to work at 4am this morning, Monday August 31, when he noticed the car was missing.
They realised someone had come into their home and stolen the car keys before taking the silver Falcon sedan.
About 6am this morning Ms Salmon saw photos posted on Facebook of the car engulfed in flames on Little Street, Carey Park.
Firefighters attended the scene to put out the blaze, but the car had been completely gutted.
“I’m absolutely devastated, I had no insurance and had a heap of stuff in there because I had just got back from a trip to Rottnest,” she said.
When Ms Salmon identified herself as the owner of the destroyed car on the Bunbury Crime Stoppers Facebook page, messages of support started to flood in.
“I’ve had people offering cars for me to borrow, fuel, stationery and school bags for my kids – it’s been so overwhelming, I can’t believe it,” she said.
Police say two other vehicles were stolen on Wednesday and Thursday last week - one from a home in Dalyellup and one from a business premises in Capel.
Investigations are continuing.
