A MANDURAH crystal shop had about $20,000 worth of property stolen in a burglary last Monday morning.
Mandurah Crystals Souls Sanctuary owner Jeni Smart said she was notified by police that her store had been broken into at 3.30am Monday morning.
“The police said they would have been in and out very quickly, since they had time to escape after setting off the alarm,” she said.
The burglar smashed the front window of the store before climbing through and breaking into Ms Smart’s jewellery cabinet.
A range of jewellery, crystals and a ceremonial sword were stolen.
“All of the items were handcrafted, so it’s really hard to say that it wasn’t that much stolen,” Ms Smart said.
“It’s not just about the money. These items are all individually crafted, so not a single crystal is the same.”
The uniqueness of the crystals would hopefully make it difficult to on-sell them.
“I’m not sure how they’re planning to sell them.
“I’m not ensured for contents, so obviously it’s a major inconvenience.
“I had to get the glass and everything repaired straight away, because I couldn’t afford to close down for more than two days.”
Ms Smart has been operating her crystal shop for 15 years in Mandurah, originally on Tindale St before moving to the new property on Mandurah Terrace two years ago.
She said she had never had a break-in occur in her store, let alone one with so much damage.
Ms Smart said the burglar left blood on the front door and the floor of the business during the robbery.
“Forensics came on Monday and took samples,” she said.
“They were trying to find out if the burglar was already on the system, but so far I haven’t heard anything back from [the police].”
Ms Smart said despite the stress of replacing $20,000 worth of stock and property, she had been buoyed by the local community response.
“I posted information on Facebook, and within a day we had about 4000 responses,” she said.
“The feedback and support has been really good, it just goes to show how much people around here look after each other when something like this happens.”
