A COODANUP woman involved in a violent, racist attack at a Mandurah foreshore restaurant was lucky to escape a prison term after appearing in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Friday.
Sonia Nicole Perry was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm in relation to the June 8 incident which left the restaurant owner with a fractured finger.
The court heard Perry had been agitated prior to the racially abusive attack and was asked to leave the restaurant.
The 21-year-old became increasingly hostile and threw a potplant at a staff member before repeatedly striking the owner.
Counsel for Perry said her client, who did not usually drink, had drunk two bottles of wine that evening and was “very remorseful”.
Magistrate Michelle Pontifex referred to the incident as the “lowest of the low”.
“You were being a racist,” she said.
“It’s just terrible.
“This is Australia.
“We’re not racist.”
Perry was placed on a 12-month intensive supervision order with program requirements.
She was warned if she breached the order she would face re-sentencing.
