MANDURAH MLA David Templeman has praised the City of Mandurah for responding to his request to improve footpath access for people with gophers or wheelchair users in Coodanup.
Last month he was contacted by elderly Coodanup resident Peter Addison who uses his gopher regularly to get to Centro Shopping Centre.
Mr Addison had been having difficulty getting his gopher onto footpaths near Steerforth Drive, Ranceby Avenue and Maclaggan Turn in Coodanup.
“I wrote to the Council about the difficulties Mr Addison and others have been having and am pleased that all access ramps onto the footpath network in that area will be fixed,” Mr Templeman said.
“The Council has also agreed to look at funding an extension of the footpath along Steerforth Drive to connect to the existing park there.”
Mr Templeman called on people who used gophers or wheelchairs in Mandurah who haddifficulties getting them up onto footpaths at designated crossing points to contact his office on 9581 3944 so he could report these to Council for action.
“There are more people in our local community using gophers and shop riders as well as people confined to wheelchairs,” Mr Templeman said.
“It is important we ensure our existing footpath network is safe for them to use.”
